The Texas Department of Public Safety is a bureau of Texas state created to present public safety services to the people in the state of Texas by the following ways:-

Mission of the department

The Department of Public Safety is a state or local government agency in the United States, which serves to help certain agencies in their services by providing Administrative, Financial, And technical services

The DPS is responsible for statewide law enforcement and vehicle regulation. The department is headed by the three member Public Safety Commission. The commission is made up of citizens appointed by the Governor of Texas and confirmed by the Texas Senate.

The Administration Division maintains DPS property, provides training to other divisions, and operates the Crime Records Service.

The Driver License Division is responsible for the issuing and revocation of Texas driver's licenses.

The Criminal Law Enforcement Division focuses on drug trafficking, organized crime, and motor vehicle theft. The division also provides crime lab services to other law enforcement agencies.

The Texas Highway Patrol (formerly the Traffic Law Enforcement Division) is the division most often seen by citizens. Troopers of the highway patrol are responsible for enforcing traffic and criminal law, and serve as the Texas state police.

State troopers also serve in management and administrative positions at Driver License Division offices. Every division office has at least 2 uniformed troopers assigned to it, and one plain-clothes trooper who serve as the administrator of the office.

The Division of Emergency Management is accountable for coordinating statewide emergency planning and response. Characteristic emergencies are weather-related (hurricanes, floods, tornadoes), but the DEM also has responsibility for controlling outbreaks of epidemic disease and repression of hazardous materials. .

Department of Public Safety Motor Vehicle Theft Service- criminal law enforcement division

The aim of MVTS is to endorse effective law enforcement through the prompt apprehension of motor vehicle theft suspects in Texas. The staff works closely with representatives of other DPS units and with all public and private agencies involved in motor vehicle theft control and prevention and endeavor to improve the recovery rate of stolen vehicles, which is as high as 75%.

Department of Public Safety Narcotics Service- criminal law enforcement division

The Narcotics Service is in charge of the overall development of the state's enforcement efforts against unlawful drug trafficking in Texas. The Narcotics Service uses analytical enforcement and regulatory authority with 295 commissioned officers and 142 regulatory and support personnel. The Narcotics Service also provides operational oversight to 43 multi-jurisdictional drug task forces, funded by the Criminal Justice Division of the Governors Office, located advantageously across the state.

Department of Public Safety Special Crimes Service

Special Crimes Service investigates and assists local, state, and federal law enforcement with the investigation of major crimes within Texas. The Service acts as a central point for information received from the public and law enforcement related to terrorism

Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers

The most renowned division of the DPS is the Texas Rangers. , which are accountable for state-level criminal investigation, among other duties.

The major duty of the Texas Ranger Division is to provide major crime investigative assistance to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies within and outside the State of Texas.

The duty of the Texas Ranger Division is to perform criminal and public integrity investigations, arrest criminals for violations of state and federal laws, contain major disturbances, protect life and assets, and provide assistance to local law enforcement officials in suppressing crime and violence. The Ranger Division is continuing to support federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the investigation of acts of violence.
