Language quiz 27 September 2015 By Simon Here’s a recording in a mystery language. Can you identify the language, and do you know where it’s spoken?
This was quite nice. Took some time to start hearing the words properly. English. Perhaps in the Caribbean.
The answer is Antiguan Creole, an English-based creole spoken in Antigua. The recording comes from the One Story Partnership.
Wow, really surprised it’s not Jamaican. I wonder to what degree Antiguan and Jamaican developed together and to what degree they were independent and parallel.

I think it’s an English-based creole, rather than a dialect. Jamaican Patois, perhaps?
Jamaican creole, based on the word “pikney” for children.
