  1. Sounds like a Sinitic language from southern China or Taiwan. I think she talks about her own language and Mandarin, using “Guo yu” for the latter. That points to Taiwan rather than to mainland China. I am not too sure, though.

  2. I must heartily agree with Emanuel. It does have a sound or two that is Japanese to me but it is certainly a tonal language.

  3. Yes, Hank, I also had two or three “Japonic moments” while listening to this. But what could it be, perhaps some Ryukyuan language? They have pitch accent and are not fully tonal, though, whereas this clearly is (to my ears, at least). From all I have heard today while searching, Teochew comes closest to this recording. And I rest my case.

  4. Definitely a Chinese language. The speaker greets everyone, says her name and where she works…
