Bantik

Bantik is a member of the South Sangric branch of the Philippine language family. It is spoken in North Sulawesi province in Indonesia, particularly in the area of Manado city. In 2010 there were about 1,200 speakers of Bantik. It is spoken mainly by older men and is used in private. It is considered improper for women to speak it, and very few woman under 30 can do so. Younger people are shifting to Manado Malay, the local variety of Malay, and they speak Indonesian in formal and religious contexts.
