Chamling (चाम्लिङ्)

Chamling is a member of the Kiranti branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken mainly in eastern Nepal, particularly in the Khotang and Udayapur districts of Province No. 1. In 2011 there were about 83,200 speakers of Chamling in Nepal. There are also some speakers of Chamling in northern India in the South district of Sikkim state and in the Darjeeling and Regu districts of West Bengal state.

Chamling is also known as Camling, Chamlinge Rai or Rodong. Dialects include Balamtali, Ratanchhali and Halesi. Ratanchhali and Halesi It is used in literature, periodicals and on the radio, and is written with the Devanagari alphabet.

झारा मिनाचीमो प्रतिष्ठा हेमा अधिकारमो आधारदा मामाखोरीनाका मिटायेपाङो स्वतन्त्र हेमा समान मितिरे। खुचीमो तयाँ तिरेनोम झारापिदा खुन्योको खारु मुयो।

Transliteration

Jhārā minācīmī pratiṣthā hemā adhikārmo ādhārdā māmākhorīnākā miṭāyepāṅo swatantra hemā samān mitire. Khucīmo tayāṁ tirenom jhārāpidā khunyoko khāru muyo.

Translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
