Chhantyal (छन्त्याल)

Chhantyal is member of the Tamangic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is spoken in the Kali Gandaki River valley in the Baglung and Myagdi districts of Gandaki Province in central Nepal. In 2011 there were about 4,020 speakers of Chhantyal.

Chhantyal is also known as Chantel, Chhantel, Chantyal or Khamkura. It is related to Thakali, Gurung, Manangba and Tamang.

झाउनी म्हीमा जर्मिवाढिकिन् सुँइखुसो मनितारी नी हौलारी मेसोवासे ताम्। थोवाँए ज्ञान नी तिङगम्स खासिवा तासिवा ताम्। थोवाँस आलेङसाए सोच क्हासिर सुँइसुइनास गाँरावा तामसुङ लावापरिम्।

Transliteration

jhāunī mḥīmā jarmiwāṭikin sũikhusī manitārī nī haulārī mesowāse tām. thowā̃e gyān nī tiṅagams khāsiwā tāsiwā tām. thowā̃s āleṅsāe soc kḥāsir sũisuinās gārāwā tāmsuṅ lāwāparim.

Translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
