Ipai is a Yuman language spoken in San Diego County in southern California in the USA. In 2007 there were just six native speakers of Ipai, which is also known as Northern Diegueño or Iipay.
Ipai is closely related to Kumeyaay and Tipai, Yuman languages spoken to the south of Ipai in California, and in northwest Baja California in Mexico. These three languages were considered dialects of the Diegueño language, but are currently considered distinct languages within a dialect continuum by linguists. The people who speak them are collectively known as Kumeyaay.
Some teaching materials, grammars, a dictionary and other texts have been published in Ipai.
