Luvale is a Bantu language spoken in southern Angola and northern Zambia. In Zambia it is spoken by about 171,000 people in the North-Western and Western provinces. In Angola it is spoken by about 304,000 people in Moxico and the southeast provinces.
Luvale is also known as Balovale, Lovale, Lubale, Chiluvale, Luena or Lwena. It is closely related related to Chokwe.
Luvale is taught in primary schools in Zambia, and used in the media and literature. It is written with the Latin alphabet.
