Pahari (पहरी)

Pahari is a Tibeto-Burman language in the Kathmandu valley in central Nepal, particularly in the villages of Badikhel, Tikabhairav, Lele, Godavari and Chapagaoun in the Lalitpur district of Province No. 3. The number of speakers of Pahari is not known.

Pahari is also known as Badikhel Pahari, Pahri or Pihi. Native speakers call it Pāhāri (पहरी) or Nagarkote, and call themselves Pihi' (पिही). Newar speakers call the language Pahibhāe, and the language is considered a dialect of Newar.

फकौ मुन्छीतया मानव अधिकार थ्या बुजात थुथु थ्या मान दौउदु। उसीनऔं थु अकिल काना यउथुदु। छिरी थुथु दाजु मन्जाया थिङया मिलेजुना चइमाउ छु।

Transliteration

phakau munchītayā mānav adhikār thyā bujāt thuthu thyā mān dau'udu. usīnāuṁ thu akil kānā yauthudu. chirī thuthu dāju manjāyā thiṅayā milejunā ca'imāu chu.

Translation

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.
