Tangale is a member of the West Chadic branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family. It is spoken in eastern Nigeriais, mainly in Akko, Billiri, Kaltungo and Shongom Local Government Area of Gomba State, and also in Bauchi State. In 2006 there were about 200,000 of Tangale.
There are two dialects of Tangale: Kaltungo (Tangale East) and Biliri (Tangale West). The language has been written with a version of the Latin alphabet since 1963.
Tangale has two tones: the high tone is marked with an acute accent (á), and the low tone is not marked.
