Wintu is a Wintuan language that was spoken in northern California until 2003, when the last native speaker, Flora Jones, died. It was spoken in the upper part of Sacramento Valley in Shasta, Trinity and Siskiyou counties.
Since 2011 the Winnemem Wintu Language Project has been working to revitalize the language. They are working with a linguist from Germany, Stefan Liedtke, to produce an alphabet and learning materials for the language, including a talking dicitonary.
Wintu is also known as Colouse, Wintun, North Wintun or Wintu-Nomlaki.
