Yanesha' is a Southern Arawakan language spoken by about 9,8000 Amuesha people in central Peru. In particular, it is spoken at the upper reaches of the Oachitea and Perene rivers in the centre and east of the Pasco Region, and in the west of the Junin Region.
Other names for Yanesha' include Amuesha or Amoesha, and Yanesha' speakers call it Yaneshac̈h [janeʃaˀt͡ʂʰ], which means "we the people". It contains many words borrowed from Quechua and the Kampa languages, and the pronunciation of Yanesha' vowels has been influenced by Quechua.
Yanesha' is written with the Latin alphabet. One spelling system was introduced in 2008, and a revised orthography was approved by the Peruvian government in 2015. Other spelling systems are available.
