Choápam Zapotec (Diꞌidzaꞌ xidzaꞌ)

Choápam Zapotec is a member of the Zapotecan branch of the Oto-Manguean language family. It is spoken by about 12,000 people in southern Mexico, particularly in Comaltepec in the northeast of Oaxaca state, and in Arena and Playa Vincente in Verzcruz state. The majority of Choápam Zapotec speakers are adults. Some children also speak the language.

Choapan Zapotec, Diza shisa’, Diza shitsá, Zapoteco de Choapan, Zapoteco de San Juan Comaltepec or Zapoteco del Oeste de Tuxtepec.

Stress normally falls on the penultimate syllable. If it falls elsewhere, an acute accent (á) is used to indicate it.

Entonces les voy a contar un cuento acerca de dos compadres. Ellos vivían en el mismo pueblo. Un compadre era muy pobre. El otro compadre andaba consiguiendo mucho dinero. Cuando venía traía el dinero en bolsas. Entonces el compadre fue a ver a su compadre a su casa. Cuando él llegó a la casa de su compadre, platicaron de su situación, que él no tenía dinero.
