There are severals questions rising over the adoption of standardized language for nurses and its usage in the professional communication.

The language must encourage communication among the nurses and facilitate intervention across health care facilities and settings. The language should also explain the nursing results through a computer-understandable coding system so that the data analysis can be carried away on a later stage.
The main purpose of having a standardized language is that it makes the communication between the nurses and other professionals easy. Some other languages that were developed for the nurses include Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) and Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC). These both are linked to other prominent nursing languages such as the Omaha system, NANDA nursing diagnoses, and Oasis of health care. NIC has also been translated in nine different foreign languages and NOC has been translated into seven foreign languages.

Since the nursing data can be stored in computers, these collected data can be used to facilitate better services in the nursing care. the extended use of the standardized language can help in conducting major research on standardized nursing languages. The University of Iowa has executed research on NIC and NOC using computerized databases. The main significance of NOC system is that it measures nursing results in a numerical form and offers differences in nursing practices across different regions and facilities.

The Standardized nursing languages are validated by the American Nurses Association (ANA) which administers the Nursing Information and Data Set Evaluation Center (NIDSEC). The ANA evaluates the language according to its terminology, and confidentiality. The recognition of the nursing language comes with a validity of three years and a new application is required to be submitted after three years.
