The Hanbayin alphabet was invented by Vince Rojo while he was studying beginner Mandarin. He made it so that he could write his native langauge, Tagalog, while making it look like Chinese. The name is a portmanteau of "Hànzì", Chinese character (汉字 [漢字]), and "Baybayin," an ancient Tagalog script.
