Handaues means "that which is spoken". It is a language and alphabet designed by Merrill Asp to be efficient and attractive for a calligraphy project. The characters are based on a central vowel, so that each one is read: left consonant, right consonant, vowel base. Stress is placed on the second to last vowel or diphthong, unless otherwise indicated.

are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another
in a spirit of brotherhood.
