The Hunter × Hunter Alphabet was created by Yoshiro Togashi (冨樫 義博) for use in his Hunter × Hunter ( ハンター×ハンター) Japanese manga series, which has been serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump (週刊少年ジャンプ) magazine since 1998.
Within the manga series, this script is used to write Japanese words and sentences, and works as a substitution cipher for Japanese kana (syllabic scripts). It is known as ハンター文字 (hantā moji) or "Hunter Characters" in Japanese.
