Discover Italy, its language and culture in Bologna

by Alberto Rossi

Bologna is a wonderful city not yet discovered by most tourists. Big travel agencies encourage tourists to visit the most striking cities such as Florence, Venice and Rome. Their beauty is that of the Renaissance period and one is immediately aware of this.

Bologna is a medieval town whose beauty is not shown hidden behind the facades that line the arcades. There are 42km of arcades leading to the hills where you can walk safe from the traffic. Those who visits Bologna are selected and sophisticated tourists who wants to enjoy the Italy the Italians enjoy.

Bologna is the place where the first university in Europe was founded (in 1089 AD). There are many students, and the social life is very lively. Bologna is the most important city in history for its cuisine, but, pay attention, "spaghetti alla bolognese" does not exist in Bologna. It is called "tagliatelle", which is not "spaghetti", but strips of egg pasta.

Bologna is the ideal city to learn the Italian language with Italian people, to meet people and to spend evenings with them. There are different English schools in Bologna that also teach Italian. Only one school is specialized to teach Italian in an Italian environment: Cultura Italiana, which is located 200 metres from the famous medieval two towers, the symbol of the city. In this school you will learn the language, the culture, the cuisine and the Italian way of life. In 2, 3 or 4 weeks, with 4 hours of lessons per day (and 2 hours of homework), it is possible for an absolute beginner to communicate in simple conversations. The average and advanced levels permit the students to learn real Italian communication.

Bologna is not the stereotypical portrayal of Italy for tourists, the "dolce vita" is here, in a true Italian school, in an Italian environment for learning the Italian language, Italian cuisine and the social and cultural life.
