Bolyu is a member of the Pakanic branch of the Austroasiatic language family. It is spoken by about 500 people in southern China, particularly in Longlin Various Nationalities Autonomous County (隆林各族自治县) and Xilin County (西林县) in the northwest of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (广西壮族自治区). There may be some speakers in the neighbouring Yunnan Province as well.
Bolyu is also known as Baliu, Buliu, Lai, Lai Yu, Lailai, Paliu, Palju, Palyu, Polyu. It can be written with the Latin alphabet, although it rarely is written.
