Dirasha (D'iraassh)

Dirasha is Lowland East Cushitic language spoken by about 65,000 people in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) in the southwest of Ethiopia. In particular, it is spoken in the hills west and south of Chamo Lake (ጫሞ ሐይቅ) and around the town of Gidole in the Dirashe Special Woreda (district) in the Dirashe Zone (ደራሴ ሊዬ ወረዳ) of the SNNPR.

Dirasha is also known as Dirashitata, Dirayta, Diraytata, Dhirayyitta, Diraasha, Dhirasha, Ghidole, Gidole or Gardulla. There are ways to write it with the Latin and Ge'ez scripts. The Ge'ez script is used in churches, and there is a Dirasha translation of the Bible.
