Bakatiʼ is a member of the Land Dayak branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 4,000 people in the northwest of West Kalimantan Province in the west of the island of Borneo in northern Indonesian. In particular, it is spoken in the districts of Ledo, Sanggau Ledo, Teriak and Bengkayang in the Bengkayang Regency, and in Subah District Regency in West Kalimantan. There are also speakers of Bakatiʼ in the Sambas, Landak, Kubu Raya and Ketapang Regencies.
Bakatiʼ is also known as Bekatiq, Bakati, Bakati Nyam, Bakati Riok, Bakatiq or Bekati. Dialects include Moro Betung, which is spoken in the Menyuke District of the Landak Regency; Ambawang Satu, which is spoken in the Kubu Raya Regency; Sahan, which is spoken in the Sanggau Ledo District of the Bengkayang Regency, and Rodaya. which is in the Ledo District and Bani Amas Village in the Bengkayang Regency.
