Bunu (Buod Nuox)

Bunu is a member of the West Hmongic branch of the Hmong-Mien language family. It is spoken by about 360,000 people mainly in Guangxi Province in southern China, particularly in Dahua Yao Autonomous County (大化七百弄乡弄京) in the west of Guangxi. There are also speakers of Bunu in other parts of Guangxi and in Yunnan Province.

Other names for Bunu include Pu Nu, Bunao, Bu-Nao, Bunuo, Po-Nau, Pounou, Pu No and Punu. Bunu speakers call their language Buod Nuox. Dialects include Dongnu, which is spoken in Funing County (富宁县) in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture (文山壮族苗族自治州), in the southeast of Yunnan, and also in northern Guangxi; Nunu, which is spoken central, western and northern parts of Guangxi, and Bunno, which is spoken in Du'an Yao Autonomous County (都安瑶族自治县) in central Guangxi. Closely related languages or varieties of Bunu are spoken in Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou Provinces,
