Kim Mun

Kim Mun is a member of the Mienic branch of the Hmong-Mien language family. It is spoken by about 400,000 people in southern China, northern Vietnam, northern Laos and northern Thailand. In particular, it is spoken by the Yao people in the southern Chinese provinces of Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan and Hainan. In Vietnam, it is spoken in the provinces of Bac Giang, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai, in Thailand, it is spoken in Lampang Province, and in Laos, it is spoken in Luang Namtha, Oudomxai and Bokeo provinces.

Kim Mun is an official language in Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County (金秀瑶族自治县 / Ginhsiu Yauzcuz Swciyen) in the east of Guangxi Province in China.

Kim Mun is known as Lanten in Laos, Kềm Mùn or Tiếng Kim Môn in Vietnam, and 金門方言 (Jīnmén Dialect) or 蓝靛 (lándiàn) in China. There are two dialects in China: West Mun (Ciəmdi Mun) and East Mun (Kimdi Mun). It is closely related to Iu Mien.

A way to write Kim Mun with the Latin script was developed in China in 1983.
