Lawangan is a member of the East Barito branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 100,00 people, particularly in Ampah Dua Village in the Dusun Tengah District of the East Barito Regency in the east of Central Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. There are also some speakers of Lawangan in Dambung Raya Village in the Haruai District of the Tabalong Regency of South Kalimantan Province.
Dialects of Lawangan include Ajuh, Bakoi, Bantian, Banuwang, Bawu, Benuaq, Kali, Karau, Lawa, Lolong, Mantararen, Njumit, Paser, Purai, Purung and Tuwang. It can be written with the Latin script.
