Dimasa (Grao-Dima)

Dimasa is a Brahmaputran language spoken in the states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur in the northeast of India by about 110,000 people. The majority of Dimasa speakers can be found in the Dima Hasao district in the south of Assam, particularly in the town of Haflong in the south of Dima Hasao. There are also Dimasa speakers in the districts of Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Cachar in Assam, in the Dimapur District in the southwest of Nagaland, and in the Jiribam Region in the soutwest of Manipur.

Dimasa means "Children of the big river", and Dimasa speakers call their language Grao-Dima ("Language of the big river"). It is closely related to Boro, Kokborok and Garo. Dimasa is written with the Latin alphabet, and there appear to be several ways to write it.
