Guna (Dulegaya)

Guna is a Chibchan language spoken by about 61,000 people mainly in the San Blas Islands in Guna Yala (Kuna Yala), an indigenous province in the northeast of Panama. There are also speakers of Guna in Darien Province in Panama, and in northwestern Colombia.

Guna is also known as Kuna or Cuna, and Guna speakers call their language Dulegaya, which means 'language of the people'. There are two varieties of Guna: San Blas Kuna, which is spoken in the San Blas Islands, and Border Kuna or Paya Kuna, which is spoken in Colombia, and in Darién Province in Panama. They are classified as separate languages in some sources.

There are several ways to write Guna with the Latin alphabet. A standard way to write the language was created by the Congreso General Guna (Guna General Congress) in 2010.
