Kera is an East Chadic language spoken mainly in southwestern Chad, and also in northern Cameroon, by about 50,500 people. In Chad there are about 44,500 speakers of Kera in the Mont d'Illi department or the Mayo-Kebbi Est region near Lake Tikem. There are also about 6,000 Kera speakers in the Mayo-Danay division of the Far North region of Cameroon.
Kera is a tonal language with three main tones: high, mid and low. The high tone is indicated by an acute accent (á), the mid tone with a macron (ā), and the low tone is indicated with a grave accent (à). There is also a falling tone (â) and a rising tone (ǎ), although these are not so common.
