The Armeno-Turkish alphabet that was a way to write Ottoman Turkish with the Armenian alphabet used until 1928, when the Latin alphabet was adopted for Turkish. Armeno-Turkish was used by ethnic Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, and also by the non-Armenian Ottoman Turkish elite. It appeared in official Ottoman documnets alongside the Arabic script.
The name "Armeno-Turkish" was coined by an American reporter in 1864. In Ottoman Turkish it was known as Ermeni harfli Türkçe (Էրմէնի խարֆլի Թիւրգչէ).
