Beary is a Southern Dravidian spoken by about 1.5 million people in southern India. It is spoken in the Tulu Nadu region of southern Karnataka, and in the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasargod districts northern Kerala.
Beary is also known as Byari. It is closely related to Tulu and Malayalam, and contains loan words from Tulu, Malayalam, Kannada and Arabic.
There are ways to write Beary with the Arabic and Kannada alphabets. In September 2022, a new script for Beary was released by the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy.
