Bobongko

Bobongko is a member of the Celebic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 1,500 people in the Togian Islands off the east coast of Sulawesi in Indonesia. The Togian Islands are part of the Tojo Una-Una Regency of Central Sulawesi Province, and Bobongko speakers can be found particularly in the villages of Lembanato, Matobiai and Tirpo on Kilat Bay in the north of Togean Island, and also in the village of Patoyan on Batu Daka Island.

Bobongko is spoken mainly by adults. Children are less likely to speak it as they feel ashamed to do so, although they may understand it. It can be written with the Latin alphabet.
