Gaʼdang

Gaʼdang is a member of the Northern Luzon branch of the Philippine group of Malayo-Polynesian languages. It is spoken by about 6,000 people in Northern Luzon in the Philippines. In particular, it is spoken in Paracelis in Mountain Province, in Alfonso Lista in Ifugao Province, and in Tabuk in Kalinga Province. There are also some Gaʼdang speakers in the provinces of Aurora and Neuva Vizcaya.

Other names for Gaʼdang include Gaddang and Gâdang. It is related to Ibanag, Itawis and other languages of Luzon.

Wara kanura Silay anni Lamag, naddambalira so danum. "Maffuteta onnu mangatteta," kunda kanu. "On," kun kanu i Lamag, se innanamanna si affutanna i Silay se balena lud. Gampade ino tattika i Silay, lumatwap e umangat so kalekay. E i Lamag, agyan pelang so dolam. Waso lumatwap i Lamag, agyan kanu kepay i Silay so dolam se nansasirap lud so agyanan i Lamag so dolam. So lumatwappiran adwa, "Tannu kadda, nu amme taka naaffut," kun kanu i Silay.

Antuweno gafuna sitaw a tiyempo, adwa ino dila i Silay se inaffu'na kanu i Lamag.

Translation

Once Lizard and Crocodile met at the river. "Let's have a breathing contest," they said. "Okay," said the Crocodile, because he was sure he could defeat Lizard because it was his home. But Lizard had a plan to surface and breathe in the air while Crocodile just stayed underwater. When the crocodile surfaced, Lizard was still underwater because he came up to breathe while Crocodile was underwater. When they both had come up, "Look, I did defeat you," Lizard said.

That's why from that time on, the lizard has had two tongues because it defeated the crocodile.
