Kuku is a member of the Bari group of Eastern Nilotic languages. It is spoken by about 200,000 Kuku people mainly in Kajo Keji County in Central Equatoria State in the south of South Sudan, and also in the nearby West Nile district in northern Uganda.
Kuku is also known as BaKuku, Kutuk na Kuku or Kʊ́tʊ́k nà kùkù ('Kuku language'). It is closely related to Bari and Kakwa, and is classified as a dialect of Bari in some sources. There is no standard way to write Kuku, but it is sometimes written with an alphabet based on the one used for Bari.
