Ubang is a member of the Bendi branch of the Atlantic–Congo language family. It is spoken in Cross River State in southern Nigeria. In 2013 there were about 11,000 speakers of Ubang.
Different versions of Ubang are spoken by men and women. The differences are mainly in vocabulary. For example, to male Ubang speakers a dog is abu, goat is ibue and tree is kitchi. To a female speakers the equivalent words are akwakwe, obi and okweng. Male and female Ubang speakers can understand each other. Children speak the female version of the language until they are about 10 years old.
