Ambele is a member of the Grassfields branch of the Southern Bantoid language family. It is spoken by about 3,600 people in the North West Region of Cameroon. In particular, it is spoken in the Widikum-Menka Subdivision of the Momo Divison of the North West Region.
Ambele is also known as Ambala, Bata'o, Lembala, Tentwa' or Tinta. A way to write Ambele based on the General Alphabet of Cameroon Languages was proposed by Lucy Nganganu Kenfac in 2001.
