Anāl is a member of the Northwestern Kuki-Chin branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is spoken by about 14,000 people mainly in the Chandel district in the southeast of Manipur in northeast India, and also in the Sagaing Region in northwestern Myanmar.
Anāl is also known as Anal, Anaal, Namfau, Anāl Naga or Pakan Naga. Dialects include: Laizo, Lai, Zahao, Hakha Lai and Mulsom. It is written with the Latin alphabet. To encourage people to learn Anāl, the Government of Manipur offers financial rewards.
