Zyphe (Vawngtu)

Zyphe is a member of the Maraic group of the Kuki-Chin branch of the Tibeto-Burman language family. It is spoken by about 20,00 people mainly in the township of Thantlang (ထန်တလန်) in the north of Chin State in western Myanmar. There are also some speakers of Zyphe in Mizoram State in the northeast of India.

Zyphe is also known as Zyphe Chin, Vawngtu, Zo-pe, Zophei, Zophei Chin or Zoptei. There are two dialects: East Zyphe and West Zyphe. A way to write Zyphe with the Latin alphabet was created in 1998 by Rev. Dr. Ral Bawi and Prof. Kenneth Gregerson.

Translation

The breeze and the sun were arguing, each asserting that he was the strongest, when they saw a traveler who was advancing, wrapped in his coat. They agreed that whoever was the first to get the traveler to take off his coast would be regarded as the strongest.
