Other names for Rongmei include Rongmei Naga, Ruangmei, Ruanglat, Kabui and Songbu. There are three main dialects: Tamenglong, Imphal and Cachar. It is closely related to Zeme and Liangmai. There are ways to write Rongmei with the Latin alphabet, and with the Meitei script (Meitei Mayek). There is a Rongmei translation of the New Testament of the Bible (in the Latin alphabet), and it is taught in schools in Manipur and Nagaland.
