Metaʼ is a member of the Eastern Grassfields group of Southern Bantoid languages. It has about 190,000 speakers in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, particularly near the towns of Mbengwi and Batibo in the Momo Department in the south of the Northwest Region, and in and around Bamenda in the neighbouring department of Mezam.
Metaʼ is also known as Metaʼ-Ngamambo, Metta, Bameta, Mitaa, Moghamo-Menemo, Muta or Menemo. There are two dialects: Moghamo and Menemo.
