Yambeta (Yambɛta)

Yambeta is a member of the West Mbam branch of the Southern Bantoid language family. It is spoken by about 6,000 people in the commune of Kon-Yambetta in the Mbam-et-Inoubou Department in the west of the Central Region in southwestern Cameroon. It is considered an endangered language as few young people are growing up speaking it.

Yambeta is also known as Yambetta, Nedek, Njambeta or Nigi, and Yambeta speakers call their language Yambɛta. There are two dialects: Nedek and Nigii. It is used as a language of instruction or taught in some primary schools, and is written with the Latin script. There is a translation of the Bible in Yambeta.
