The Tower of Babel (Genesis 11: 1-9)

- Sva zemlja govorila je tada samo jedan jezik i rabila jednak govor.
- I tako, kako su se selili od istoka, nađoše ravnicu
u zemlji šinearskoj i ondje se naseliše.
- Tada rekoše jedan drugome: "Hajde da pravimo opeku i da je
pečemo u ognju!" Tako im je služila opeka za kamen i
smola zemljana za žbuku.
- Potom rekoše: "Hajde da sazidamo sebi grad i kulu s vrhom
do neba, i da podignemo sebi spomenik, da se ne raspršimo po
svoj zemlji!"
- A Gospod siđe da vidi grad i kulu, što su ih zidali sinovi
čovječji.
- I reče Gospod: "Evo, svi su jedan narod, i jednak je jezik
svima, i to počeše raditi. Otada nec'e im smetati ništa
da ne urade, što naume.
- Hajde da siđemo i da im pometemo jezik, da ne razumiju jedan drugoga
što govore!"
- I rasprši ih Gospod odanle po svoj zemlji, i tako moradoše
odustati od zidanja grada.
- Zato se prozva Babel; jer ondje pomete Gospod jezik cijele zemlje, i
odanle ih rasprši Gospod po svoj zemlji.
