Emilian (emigliân)

Emilian is a member of the Gallo-Italic branch of the Romance language family. It is spoken by about 400,000 people mainly in Emilia-Romagna, a region of northern Italy, and also in the Italian regions of Lombardy, Tuscany and Veneto.

Dialects of Emilian include Manutan, Vogherese, Piacentino, Parmesan, Reggiano, Modenese, Mirandolese, Bolognese, Ferrarese, Carrerese, Lunigiano, and possibly Massese, Casalasco and Comacchiese.

Emilian is closely related to Romagnol, Piedmontese, Ligurian and Lombard. There is some degree of mutual intelligibility between these languages.

These is no standard way to write Emilian, and speakers of each dialect have developed their own ways of writing the language.
