Pagibete (Apagibete)

Pagibete is a Bantu language spoken by about 28,000 people in the northwest of the the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is spoken mainly in Busina in Nord-Ubangi Province, and also in or near the towns of Bumba and Ngakpo in Mongala Province.

Pagibete is also known as Pagabete, Apagibete, Apagibeti, Apakabeti or Apakibeti. Dialects include Monveda, Mongbapele and Ndundusana. It is written with the Latin alphabet using orthography developed by the Congolese Association for Bible Translation and Literacy. The New Testament of the Bible has been translated into Pagibete. The language is not taught or used in schools.
