Kwara’ae

Kwara’ae is a member of the Oceanic branch of Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 32,400 people mainly on Malaita Island in Malaita Province of the Solomon Islands. There are also speakers of Kwara’ae near Honiara on the island of Guadalcanal. It is the most widely spoken indigenous language in the Solomon Islands.

Kwara’ae is also known as Fiu, Fui, Kwaraqae or Qara'ae. It is written with the Latin script and there is some literature in the language, including a dictionary, grammar and a translation of the New Testament.
