The Masaram Gondi script was created in 1918 by Munshi Mangal Singh Masaram of Kochewada in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. It is used to write Gondi, a South Central Dravidian language spoken mainly in the Indian states of Maharashtra, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. It is also known as the Gondi alphabet, or the Munshi Mangal Singh Masaram Script. It was adopted as the official script for the Gondi language in Maharashtra in 2011.
