Old Uyghur Uyghur vertical script

The Old Uyghur alphabet was used between the 9th and the 18th centuries to write Old Uyghur, a Turkic language that was spoken in Turpan and Gansu in northwestern China, and which was the ancestor of the modern Uyghur language.

This alphabet developed from the Aramaic alphabet, and unlike Aramaic, which is written from right to left in horizontal lines, the Old Uyghur alphabet was written from left to right in vertical columns. Or in other words, it was a version of Aramaic rotated 90° to the left.
