The Chisoi alphabet was created by Jayanta Kumar Mahata in 1986, a Kurmali linguist from the Jhargram of West Bengal. It is used to write Kurmali, a Bihari language spoken in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Assam in the northeast of India. Several books have been published in the Chisoi alphabet. Kurmali is usually written with the Devanagari, Odia, Bengali or Latin alphabets.
