Ushoji is a member of the Eastern Dardic branch of the Indo-Aryan language family. It is spoken by about 2,000 people in the the north of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in the northwest Pakistan. In particular, it is spoken in the village of Bishgram and nearby villages in the Swat District, and also in the Kolai area of the Kolai-Palas Kohistan District.
Ushoji is also known as Ushojo, and Ushoji speakers call their language اُݜوجو (Uṣōǰō). Ushoji is considered severely endangered, particularly in Swat, and Ushoji speakers are shifting to Pashto, which they use to communicate with other people in their region. Ushoji is written with the Perso-Arabic script, usually in the Nastaliq style. The spelling system is based on Torwali and Shina.
