Koyraboro Senni (كࣷيْرَبࣷرࣷ سٜنِّ)

Koyraboro Senni is a Southern Songhay language spoken by about 430,000 people in the Gao Region in southern Mali. In particular, it is spoken along the Niger River in the towns of Gourma-Rharous, Bourem, Gao and Ansongo. There also speakers of this language in other parts of Mali, and in nearby countries.

Koyraboro Senni is also known as Koroboro Senni, Koyra Senni, Gao, Gao Songhay, Gao Senni or East Songhay. The name Koyraboro Senni comes from koyra-boro senn-i ("the language of the town dwellers").

There are ways to write Koyraboro Senni with the Latin alphabet and the Arabic alphabet. The Latin alphabet was standardized by the Direction Nationale de l'Alphabétisation Fonctionnelle et de la Linguistique Appliquée (DNAFLA), the national literacy agency in Mali. The Arabic (Ajami) alphabet for Koyraboro Senni was standardized in 1987.
