Humburi Senni is a member of the Southern Songhay branch of the Nilosaharan language family. It is spoken by about 81,000 people mainly in southern Mali, and also in northeastern Burkina Faso. In particular it is spoken in and around Hombori, a town in the Cercle of Douentza in the Mopti Region of Mali, and in and around the town of Dori in the Sahel Region of Séno Province in the northeast of Burkina Faso.
Humburi Senni is also known as Central Songhay, Humburi Senni Songhay or Songhay of Hombori. The language spoken in Burkina Faso is either a dialect of Humburi Senni, or a closely related language. There are ways to write Humburi Senni with the Arabic and Latin scripts.
